Manchester Royal Infirmary - New Facilities for Manchester Royal Infirmary

New Facilities for Manchester Royal Infirmary

Some of the services which were previously housed in the older parts of the Manchester Royal Infirmary have now moved into new facilities.

The new wing of the Manchester Royal Infirmary incorporates new facilities for Haematology, Renal and Acute Medicine.  The Elective Treatment Centre and Oral Surgery Day-case areas have also expanded into this area.

Renal services have expanded to offer an Acute Renal Service.  The new in-patient wards have also benefitted from purpose-built isolation rooms.  Previously, patients on our wards that needed to continue with their dialysis had to leave the ward to visit the Renal Dialysis Unit.  This is no longer the case as there is now the facility for in-patients to have dialysis on their ward.

Haematology offers a range of services including Oncology, Haemophilia and Sickle Cell.  These services have benefitted from a new Intrathecal Room and better isolation facilities.  They have also been able to increase their number of beds on the haematology ward from 18 to 22.

All services have benefitted from an improvement in facilities and space.  In-patient areas have seen a large increase in en-suite and single room facilities.

Part of the new facilities were opened in 2007.  These included the new Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care unit, Renal Dialysis Unit and Rheumatology Department.
